Why Udaipur is one of the best destinations for the travellers?

Established in 1559 by Maharana Udai Singh II, Udaipur served as the capital of the princely state of Mewar from 1567 to 1818. The Maharana shifted the capital from Chittorgarh to Udaipur after the Mughal Emperor Akbar besieged the fort in 1567. The Maharana chose this location as it was protected by the surrounding Aravalli mountains, the land was very fertile and the Pichola Lake was a perennial source of water. Legend has it that when the Maharana was hunting at the foothill of the Aravallis, he was advised by a hermit to build a palace on the location, assuring him that it would be well-protected.
